Have enjoyed this so far with the very local aspect of it being the main appeal. (see on Amazon)

What a wonderful insight into a neighbourhood that I have been to many times. I I would never have thought too much about it but Robbie has triggered something in me. (MB)
---------------------------------------
Codsall holds a special place in my heart. This book takes my wife and I back to the old days as my later father-in-law, Charlie Caine, came from Shop Lane. Brilliant. (MP)

The original village centre was surrounding the impressive church of St Nicholas which can be seen when approaching Codsall from certain directions.

The surrounding area of Codsall is popular for people who take pleasure in countryside walking. Within minutes of leaving the village down Station Road is the Nature Trail. Opposite the start of the Trail is the drive up to the Station, it was here that my family and I parked the car over 21 years ago and looked for a house to buy.

The Day I Followed A Rainbow ©

In the true blue sky there shone,
A rainbow beaming bright.
It appeared in my back garden,
Then circled out of sight...

It was a pleasant Sunday afternoon and the football season of 2009-10 was a week old and controversy was soon aired. The day before officials of the Bristol City and Crystal Palace game had missed a legitimate goal. The score was nil-nil at the time and a Palace player scored but the ball hit the frame at the back of the goal and bounced back out. Surprisingly this had been missed by the officials and to make matters worse Bristol City scored in the last minute to win the game.

I was in the Bull on that Sunday afternoon and a debate of that disallowed goal was in process as Sky Sports News showed the action. All eyes were on the television screen in the corner of the bar soon to be distracted. The poor old referee could do worse and tell them this excuse because as we were looking at the telly a blooming great pigeon hovered into the bar area from the lounge. All who were there were shocked and everyone’s eyes were not looking at the game. The pigeon soon went into panic and flew three times into the window. Those who were sitting there had to duck their heads as we then did as it veered to the other end of the bar. It made another couple of attempts at another window finally coming to rest on the windowsill. I opened a window above it as someone else collected the pigeon and let it out. A few feathers fluttered into the village streets of Codsall and we eventually got on with our debate.

CODSALL STATION FOOTBRIDGE ©
by Robbie Kennedy Bennett

In Codsall one Sunday afternoon,
A well-earned pint couldn't be served too soon.
I sensed a strange kind of atmosphere,
So I questioned 'has something happened in here?
A mate at the bar then spoke,
My first instinct was it must be a joke...

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Codsall Station building was converted into a Public House in the late 20th Century. Inside the Station are various pictures of railway scenes and obviously some of the Station Building in bygone times. The station would have witnessed the growth of dwellings around this part of Codsall because of the arrival of the railway. I can include myself in living in one of those houses today that was built for commuters.
In the Station building there is a picture or two of the Mr Evans’s family who was the Station Master at the turn of the 20th Century. I presume this would have been their home. On one picture his family are standing outside the building with the steps of the footbridge on the Shrewsbury side of the platform in the background. Who would have thought at the time of taking the picture that a story would develop over a hundred years later. What I find most interesting also is that I wish I could see the view of the time behind the photographer.

I spend many hours dog walking in the lanes to the west of Codsall. As the end of 2007 was drawing to a close I ventured a little bit further along the A41 to work off some of the Christmas intake. Over the brow of the hill at Kingswood is the border of Shropshire. On a clear day the view is picturesque, and today wasn’t bad.

New years Day and I’d already had walked the dog at 9.00am but the afternoon drew me out for a wee bit of fresh air. Well it was refreshing and a bit of ‘Mary Poppins’ about the day with more people about than usual. Dogs are well treated about this time of year with a few extra walks that they are treated to. New Years Day, fortunate to get to another one and struggling to remember about all that has preceded.
